A man spends two years in a hospital rejecting all other options offered to him before having to be evicted by the courts from his bed – that's satire from The Onion, right? Surely? That was my initial reaction to the story of Adriano Guedes and his lengthy spell as a resident at the James Paget Hospital in Norfolk. I was once an outpatient there and counted an escape within two hours as a result (although that's true of any hospital). Guedes, a 63-year-old stroke victim, told the BBC that he had tried to vacate his bed, only to be forced to stay because the accommodation he was offered wasn't appropriate to his condition and the disabilities it caused, and he had nowhere else to go. Anna Hills, director of governance at the hospital, popped up in an attempt to draw a line under the conversation, saying that "as a compassionate organisation, the James Paget worked throughout in partnership with a range of agencies to achieve a safe discharge from the hospital. These included the local authority and social care and, as far as possible, Guedes, his family and friends.
The number of pubs dramatically increased with the birth of the beer house, a largely mid-19th century creation which developed as a result of the 1830 Beer Act (a response to the perceived evils of the gin shop) that granted a license to serve beer to any ratepayer who could pay the annual Excise Fee. Beer houses (as the name suggests) were only licensed to sell beer, unlike the fully licensed public houses, although many of these fully licensed pubs began life as beer houses. The relative freedom of the Beer Act did not continue, leading in the 1890s to breweries (such as Guinness) looking to acquire licensed public houses to sell their beer, thus beginning a system of brewery owned and controlled pubs that is still in place today.

Each ride vehicle seats four guests, and everyone is assigned the role of either navigator, pilot, commander, or engineer. Throughout the ride, each person has to initiate certain "mission-critical sequences. " But the controls don't actually affect the ride experience. We've seen a more advanced version of this used with Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run in Hollywood Studios, where the controls actually do change the ride experience. Of course, that's a much newer attraction, but it's tough to see a more basic version at Mission: SPACE when we know how awesome a truly interactive experience can be. So even though we do appreciate Mission: SPACE giving us the chance to live out our childhood dreams of becoming an astronaut, we have to put it at the bottom of the Epcot thrill rides. Best Thrill Ride in Hollywood Studios: Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance We almost didn't list Rise of the Resistance as the best thrill ride in Hollywood Studios. Hold your gasps! At first, we weren't sure whether this would be better categorized as a dark ride since it blends those elements in so well.

December 23, 2019 | 4:03pm Take a look at Château de Vibrac, which two groups aim to restore through crowdfunding. Dartagnans Up Next "Looking for love. Must like stripes. " New York City felons... How much does it cost to be the king or queen of your own domain? In France, it's a mere $55. That small sum snags you a share of the crumbling Château de Vibrac castle. Preservation startup Dartagnans and a nonprofit restoration association named Adopte un château are leading an effort to make a crowdfunded purchase of this 12-acre estate, located in western France's Cognac region. So far, the campaign has received more than $400, 000 of its initial $111, 000 goal to buy the castle, which originally dates back to the ninth century. Some 4, 000 donations have come in from 73 countries, with nine days still to go in the campaign. The organizers tell CNN Travel that they'll need to invest $1. 37 million total to bring the castle, which has been abandoned for more than 100 years, up to par. The goals include restoring Vibrac to host community events and raising organic produce on the site's "fertile soil, " according to the campaign site.
